About the event
Holyoke Preservation Trust is pleased to present Bob Comeau’s FREE 1-hour tour of West Springfield’s Ashleyville Cemetery. Join Bob Comeau on August 9th as he takes you on a tour of this historic cemetery located in an area settled within the bounds of what was established as the North/Ireland Parish. Ashleyville Cemetery offers a portal into the lives of the families who built early West Springfield. Their descendants shaped the parishes, towns, and even the land divisions we still see today.
The cemetery Includes hand-carved slate and marble gravestones with symbolic imagery and reflects the interwoven family histories of early West Springfield and surrounding areas such as Holyoke, Springfield, and Northampton. Those who lie in rest not only include early 17th and 18th families, and American Revolutionary Soldiers, but also relatives of Mary Bliss Parsons, who was charged with witchcraft by the residents of Northampton and Springfield.
