About the event
Join Bob Comeau as he takes you on a one-hour tour of Easthampton's historic Brookside Cemetery which holds important historical significance for the region as both a 19th-century burial ground and a reflection of Easthampton’s transition from rural village to industrial mill town in the late 1800s.
Burials at Brookside include many prominent mill workers, local business owners, veterans, and descendants of founding Easthampton families. It contains veterans from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, making it an important site of military remembrance. The gravestones reflect changing funerary art and epitaph traditions, from Victorian symbolism to more modern markers.
For local historians and genealogists, Brookside is a key source of family history, chronicling generations of Easthampton residents.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
